She won her first National Film Award for Best Actress in 1988 for the Tamil Movie
Veedu. She acted in movies such as "Ladies Tailor" (directed by Vamsi) and "Kallu" (Eyes). She acted in Nireekshana (1981), by Bhanu Chander. She won her second National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the movie "Daasi" (Bonded maid) (1989) in Telugu.
